Pakistan: Recently married young couple killed in the name of 'honour'

A couple, who recently married of their own choice, was allegedly killed in a suspected case of honour killing in Pakistan's Lahore city, media reports said.

The victims were identified as 22-year-old Izhar and 19-year-old Benish.

They were reportedly found dead in their rented flat in  the city.

Police told The Express Tribune that unidentified assailants entered the couple's residence, subjected them to severe torture and then slit their throats before fleeing the scene.

After arriving at the scene of the crime, police transferred the bodies to the morgue for post-mortem via Edhi ambulances.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Izhar and Benish hailed from Gilgit and had moved to Lahore a few months ago after marrying against their families' wishes, reported the Pakistani newspaper.

Police suspect those behind the crime were motivated by so-called honour concerns.

Polie have recovered the suspected murder weapon.
