| @indiablooms | May 22, 2021, at 08:06 pm

As Covid cases remain unchecked, Sri Lanka has imposed countrywide restrictions for four days, starting from today, and only essential services would be allowed during the period.

General Shavendra Silva, Head of National COVID-19 Operations Centre, speaking to Daily Mirror, said no one will be allowed to leave their homes when the restriction is underway except for essential service workers, food vendors, and those transporting fruits and vegetables in lorries,

The apparel industry that can work on minimum staff has been exempted from the ban and pharmacies have also been instructed to be open in case of urgent medical requirements.

The restrictions will be lifted on 25 May for a day, and thereafter it will again be imposed for three more days. The drastic measures came as the country struggled to contain the spread of the virus.

The government has also banned all arrival in the country for ten days. Even Sri Lankan nationals won’t be allowed to enter the country during this period.
