Kabul: Taliban has gunned down a folk singer in Baghlan province, where the resistance forces are giving a tough fight to the militant group and have reportedly recovered some areas, according to media reports.

Fawad Andarabi's son Jawad Andarabi told the Associated Press that the members of the Taliban had come to their house before and had tea with his father. At times they would search their house during their visits.

However, this time, a fighter shot the musician in the head at the family's farm, his son said, according to AFP.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told AFP, the incident would be investigated, but had no other information about the killing.

“There is mounting evidence that the Taliban of 2021 is the same as the intolerant, violent, repressive Taliban of 2001. 20 years later. Nothing has changed on that front," Agnes Callamard, the secretary-general of Amnesty International tweeted reacting to the report of the killing.

The earlier regime of the Taliban had banned music in Afghanistan as according to the group music is forbidden in Islam.

Andarabi was a folk singer, who sang praises of Afghanistan and its people. According to his son, the Taliban did not have much ill-feeling about the musician and some Taliban leaders had visited their homes.
