Trump says US, Russia might reach deal on Arms Control

Moscow, July 31 (Sputnik/UNI) US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he counts on reaching an agreement on arms control between the United States and Russia.

"I think we are going to end making a deal with Russia where we have some kind of an arms control, because all we are doing is adding on what we don't need and they are, too," Trump said in an interview to C-SPAN broadcaster.

Earlier in the day, US National Security Adviser John Bolton said that the only current Russian-US arms control deal, the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) was flawed and, therefore, unlikely to be extended. He added that the United States is open to having a new arms control agreement that would include both Russia and China.

New START was signed in 2010 and is due to expire in February 2021. Russia has repeatedly stressed that it is open to a dialogue on the future of the treaty.
