Los Angeles, May 18 (Xinhua/UNI) Two people were killed in a helicopter crash in the western U.S. state of Utah on Friday, authorities said.

The wreckage of the helicopter was found in a mountainous area near Salt Lake City, the capital municipality of the state.

The helicopter left eastern Utah's Ballard Friday morning and family reported it overdue when it did not arrive at a Salt Lake City airport. The crash was located shortly before 6:30 p.m. local time, according to Utah County Sheriff's Office.

The names of the victims will be released after their families have been notified, said the sheriff's office.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. There was some heavy weather in the area earlier Friday. Utah County Sgt. Spencer Cannon was quoted by local media that they didn't know whether weather played a role in the crash.
