An undertrial prisoner, who was among over 200 prisoners who escaped from Malir jail, recently committed suicide in Pakistan's Mauripur area, media reports said.

Area SHO Sardar Abbasi told Dawn News that Raza Pervaiz, 25, ended his life by hanging himself in Madni Colony.

The body was later shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

In a pre-recorded video statement shared on social media, the man said he was innocent and escaped from prison because of the earthquake and the firing.

Quoting his family, the area SHO told Dawn News that he ended his life because he was afraid of being sent to prison again.
