Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Cheif Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said 71 active COVID-19 patients are currently undergoing treatment in the state.

Speaking on the 21-day lockdown, she said: "We have to see what central govt takes decision on lockdown extension. We are waiting and watching."

"I learnt from news reports that the lockdown might be extended by the Centre. But we have to wait for an official confirmation," she said.

In West Bengal, no new deaths due to COVID-19 have been recorded.

Meanwhile, 30 doctors, 5 nurses and 4 technicians of Kolkata's state-run NRS Medical College and Hospital, who are under quarantine following the death of a Covid-19 positive patient, have tested negative.

The Indian Ministry of Health on Wednesday said total 5194 COVID-19 patients are currently present in the country.

The virus has claimed 149 deaths so far.
