| @indiablooms | Aug 25, 2019, at 12:39 pm

Guwahati, Aug 25 (IBNS): In a major embarrassment to the Assam health department, the family members of a pregnant woman have been forced to carry her on a handcart and boat to reach a hospital in Assam’s Barpeta district.

The incident took place at Majorchar area in Barpeta district, where a pregnant woman was carried on a handcart and boat by her family members to reach hospital due to lack of ambulance service and proper road connectivity.

According to the reports, when the woman – a resident of Majorchar village felt severe labour pain, the family members carried her on a handcart to reach Nagarbera Block Primary Health Centre due to lack of ambulance service and proper road connectivity.

The family members also used a country-made boat to cross the Brahmaputra river to reach the government-run hospital.

They alleged there is no ambulance service available in the area due to the dilapidated condition of roads.

“I am coming from Majorchar area. It is a delivery case and carrying the woman to reach Nagarbera hospital. We are facing lot of problems here,” a family member of the woman said.
