Bangladesh: COVID-19 cases cross 2 lakh mark

Dhaka/UNI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh has passed 2 lakh as 2,709 more tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases now stands at 202,066.

Besides, thirty-four more people died from the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 2,581.

Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of Health Directorate said this in a press briefing on Saturday.

In the last 24 hours, 10,923 samples were examined and out of them, 2,709 got positive results for the virus. Apart from, 1,373 more recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 110,098.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year. The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 599,716 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 14,205,440 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 8,480,543 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
