India's Mars Orbiter Spacecraft to reach red planet in 33 days

New Delhi, Aug 23 (IBNS): India's ambitious Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) spacecraft is all set to reach the red planet in just 33 days.

"ISRO's Mars Orbiter Mission spacecraft is just 9 million km away from Mars.  33 more days to MARS," Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) posted on social networking site Facebook.

MOM is now 189 million kilometres away from the Earth.

Mars Orbiter Spacecraft, India’s first interplanetary probe, was launched by   PSLV-C25 on Nov 5 last year from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

Subsequent to six orbit raising manoeuvres around the Earth following the launch, the Trans Mars Injection(TMI) Manoeuvre on Dec 1 gave necessary thrust to the spacecraft to escape from Earth and to initiate the journey towards Mars, in a helio-centric Orbit.
