Jammu and Kashmir: Young scientist Dr. Sameena takes giant leap from Tangmarg to California

Srinagar: Dr. Sameena Wani, daughterof Gulzar Ahmad Wani, who hailsfrom a small village Wussan BangilTajpora in Tangmarg, Kashmir hasmade the J&K proud by herachievements.

She had a simple and a modestupbringing but her parents defied allthe odds and managed the best possible education for her and her brother.

She did her master's degree from theDepartment of ClinicalBiochemistry, University ofKashmir. 

Dr. Wani completed herDoctorate (Ph.D.) in a brief three year period in August, 2018 from theDept. of Experimental Medicine &Biotechnology, Postgraduateinstitute of Medical Education &Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh,India (Reg#. 10540-PG-2015). 

She has authored five international publications from her Ph.D. work.

During her Ph.D.,she discovered the role of urinary exosomal microRNA, miR-2909, as a potentialbiomarker for the early detection and diagnosis of Prostate Cancer. 

Currently, Dr. Waniis a young scientist in the very prestigious and world renowned David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), California, United States ofAmerica. 

She is dedicated and focused to explore the cellular and molecular mechanismsin autoimmunity and intestinal inflammation affecting the pathophysiology of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD).Dr. Wani has a younger brother who she considers a great motivation and support. 

Dr.Wani believes she wouldn't have done it without the unconditional love, encouragementand support from her dad, mom and her brother. 

She has a special thank you message forher Dad:"Daddy, you have always been my stalwart supporter especially in my academic pursuitand the reason that keeps me firm in my endeavors. Thank you so much for everything, Iowe my life to You. May Allah (SWT) grant You the Highest Place in Jannah."
