Wellington/Xinhua: New Zealand reported one new confirmed case of COVID-19 on Saturday, said the Ministry of Health in a statement.

The person who was tested positive arrived in New Zealand on Oct. 1 from Britain via China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, according to the ministry.

The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand reached 1,493, which was the number the country reported to the World Health Organization.

The total number of active cases in the country was 41, with no COVID-19 patient in hospital, said the ministry.

Laboratories processed 5,728 tests on Friday, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 976,369.

Voting places for the New Zealand 2020 General Election and referendums open on Saturday with measures in place to prevent any spread of COVID-19, according to the ministry.

The general public is encouraged to vote early and vote local to minimize election day queues, which lessens the risk of COVID-19.

New Zealand's Largest city Auckland is at COVID-19 Alert Level 2, while the rest of the nation at Alert Level 1.
