Lima, Peru, Aug 16 (IBNS): At least nine people were killed and 52 others injured by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake, which struck Peru on Sunday night, reports said.

One among the nine killed was an American.

The calamity took place four miles from Yanque district in Arequipa’s Caylloma province.

Arequipa Governor Yamilo Osorio was quoted in the media as saying that the toll had risen to nine by Monday morning, after four casualties were reported on Sunday night.

"We are bringing help to Caylloma and the districts affected by the quake. Vice President Martin Vizcarra is already in the area and the defense ministry is bringing help," Peru President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski tweeted.
