COVID-19 surge: ICSE,ISC exams deferred, new dates to be announced by June 1st week

New Delhi: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations on Friday deferred the ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) examinations amid rising COVID-19 cases in the country.

The exams were scheduled to start from May 4.

The Council said new dates will be announced after taking stock of the situation.

"The Covid situation will be closely monitored and the deferment of the ICSE and ISC 2021 examinations will be reviewed and a final decision on the conduct of the board examinations will be taken by the 1st week of June 2021," read a press release issued by the Council.

The Indian government on Wednesday announced its decision to cancel the central board for secondary education (CBSE) examinations for class 10 amid rising Covid -19 cases across the nation.

The government also postponed CBSE class 12 examinations.

The examinations for both the classes were scheduled to begin on May 4, two days after the election results of five states were to be declared.

The decision was taken after a high-level meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
