Kolkata: Food and music ring in Bangla Nababarsho with unique show

Kolkata, Apr 14 (IBNS) As the Bengali is equally enamored with food and music, a new initiative now wishes to combine the two passions on the Bangla Poila Boisakh morning with mouth-watering delicacies served during performance by famed singers.

At the ‘Poila Baishakhe Sholoana Bangaliana’ programme at an auditorium in Salt Lake city, singer Haimanti Sukla performed along with younger generation performers Riddhi Bandyopadhyay and Anindyo Bose and Rupankar Bagchi  as traditional Bengali dishes like Ghee Bhaat, Kumro Ful Bhaja, Rui Machher Kalia, Kochi Panthar Jhol, Mishti Doi and Rosogolla were served on the platter.

"Bengalis are equally passionate about food, music and drama. Since Poila Boisakh (the first day of Bengali new year) is all about things celebrated by Bengalis. It is a novel way of celebrating both forms of arts," Haimanti Sukla said.

“It’s a great initiative to revive our old customs and traditions where on the first day of the Bengali New Year we can go back to our roots”, said Riddhi Bandppadhayay.

Singer and Concept Designer of the event, Prabir Das said, “In the past few decades our Bengali New Year has seen a gradual decrease in its grandeur. This will be a gift to all the Bengalis to come and enjoy the three quintessential Bengali favorites – that is Food, Music on a single platform.”
