Kolkata worships Lord Vishwakarma today

Kolkata, Sept 17 (IBNS): The dawn of Wednesday brought along with itself the celebratory mood in the city of joy and in the rest of the West Bengal as the people here worshipped the master of all mechanics and god of architecture, Lord Vishwakarma amid fun and fervour.
The Vishwakarma Puja is especially celebrated in factories, workshops and garages but neatly crafted marquees adorn almost every roadside in Kolkata
 
The worshipping of Lord Vishwakarma ushers in the festive season in Kolkata that will continue till Diwali.
 
Worshipped as the divine engineer of the world, Vishwakarma is not only revered by the engineering and architectural community but also by all professionals. It is customary for craftsmen to worship their tools in His name.
 
Factories, garages, engineering institutes and workshops, donning colourful floral decorations, observe a holiday on Vishwarkarma Puja to please the Hindu deity of all craftsmen, architects and engineers.
 
However, the festival is not only restricted to the mechanical and engineering group, as it soaks in the entire society who, taking the advantage of this day, indulge into kite flying.
 
Kite flying gatherings and competitions predominate the day, which often witness surprising attendance of adults along with youngsters every year.
 
Several cultural events are also organised in 'puja pandals' to mark the day.
 
Numerours marquees are spotted across Kolkata on this day, with loudspeakers blaring popular Hindi film songs and multi-coloured kites soaring high in the firmament.
 
Preparations commence a day before with a heavy rush in market, as people are seen busy shopping for the rituals and the idol.
