Living one's dreams is the main theme of An Old Monk by Prab Keerat Mahendru

'An Old Monk' is the story of Keerat and his relation with his beloved grandparents. The author, Prab Keerat Mahendru, very honestly narrates the story with a swift flowing attitude throughout.

He never leaves his readers guessing yet shares every ups and downs of Keerat’s life solemnly. The author’s inner feelings regarding chasing his dreams have been expressed embellished with subtle emotions.

By saying, “DREAMS DIE HARD,” he touches the nerves where each of us has cherished an unfulfilled dream. The protagonist is a replica of the contemporary society.

The adolescent mood swings and dilemmas have been portrayed very minutely.

The author plays with the emotions of the readers as he touches the softest corner and we feel like singing a dirge at the death of his beloved grandparents.

Almost everyone goes through such phases in their life: first love; sudden death of a family member; misunderstandings among friends and many such incidents but the author talks about every such incident of daily life very prudently.

The more we read on, the more we come face to face with the realities every second person on earth faces.

What is different is the attitude with which the author portrays the entire scenario with the very best hues of life. The protagonist teaches the readers, particularly teenagers, how to move on in life and not become torpid when life takes an uneasy turn. To go with the flow is life whereas to stop at an obstacle leads to decay and ultimate death.

In a simple absorbing language, the author narrates the story of his adolescence, which is a common lore among every juvenile.

The story initiates with a bottle of Old Monk and unfulfilled dreams which everyone aspires to achieve yet are scared to chase and ends dramatically in another such bottle.

Though sometimes the novel harps on monotonous notes, yet it is a retrospective for those grown-ups who had killed their dreams and emotions to fulfil the dreams of their parents who also could not achieve their cherished dream.

A good book to read and simultaneously ride on the vehicle called life with a happy-go-lucky attitude that assists the readers to cope with the tantrums of life smoothly without getting carried away on the undulating paths of the journey called life.

The book is now available at Flipkart, Ebay, Shopclues, Snapdeal, Infibeam, Power-publishers.com
