Modern woman who wears India on her sleeve with pride: Anita Dongre on her designed Diwali Barbie doll

Mumbai/IBNS: American multinational toy manufacturing company, Mattel, has unveiled its Barbie doll for the upcoming Hindu festival Diwali, which is widely celebrated in India.

The new Barbie doll comprises India's traditional fashion componente, lehenga skirt, a koti vest and a choli top.

The Hindu festival of lights which will be celebrated in the South Asian country on October 31 this year.

The woman behind the design is eminent fashion designer Anita Dongre, who shared her experience of stylising the Barbie.

Anita wrote on social media, "Designing the Barbie Diwali doll has truly been a fun and fulfilling experience. This Barbie Diwali doll represents the fashion-forward modern woman, who wears India on her sleeve with pride."

"I’m honoured for this opportunity to represent contemporary Indian fashion on a global platform and hope that it inspires kids across the world to connect with their culture and heritage," the 61-year-old added.

Mattel stated Anita Dongre-designed Barbie blends "modern aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship".

The toy manufacturing company said the doll is for children who are older than six years.

The doll is now available on various online platforms like Amazon, Walmart as well as Mattel's own website at $40.
