Publisher Niyogi Books opens first retail store in Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 24 (IBNS) Niyogi Books, a Delhi-based publishing house, recently launched their first book store in Kolkata.

Located on College Street, a popular haunt of bibliophiles, the store deals with books on a wide range of topics, such as art, photography, philosophy, heritage and culture, textiles, maps, fiction and non-fiction texts,etc.

Niyogi Books has published more than 500 titles.

National Award winning film director Goutam Ghose and acclaimed Bengali writer Sankha Ghosh inaugurated the store.

Founded in 2004, Niyogi Books have published works of people like Keki N. Daruwalla, B.N.Goswamy, Raghu Rai, Kridshna Bose, Lokesh Chandra, Rahul Jain, etc.

Trisha Dey Niyogi, marketing head Niyogi Books, said, “We felt the need to be in direct touch with the booklovers as they have always been a source of constant support and inspiration. We also aim to reach out to the book lovers of Kolkata. So Niyogi Books decided to create a space for all readers to come sit and relax and get a taste of our best-sellers.”

Goutam Ghose whose film ‘Moner Manush’ was based on the book “The Quest” published by Niyogi Books, congratulated the Niyogi family for opening a store in Kolkata.

Speaking about their new store, Bikash Dey Niyogi, Publisher, Niyogi Books, said, “To us, book lovers, College Street is the ‘Mecca’ of books. It is also a place where I hold significant memories of my childhood. Despite Delhi being the centre of our publishing activities, we thought College Street would be the most auspicious beginning for our retailing activities.”

Sankha Ghosh looked through the store and congratulated the Niyogi family on their wide collection of books.

Niyogi Books have co-published a number of critically acclaimed books with institutions like British Library, Rietberg Meuseum Zurich, IGNCA, National Gallery of Modern Art, Ministry of Culture (Govt. of India), Sahithya Akademi among others.

The bookstore is situated opposite Sanskrit College on College Street in central Kolkata.
