'The Casket’ and 'Besky' by Nita Bajoria explore a woman's journey for empowerment and love

Kolkata/IBNS: A light shower had washed the grime off the city and Kolkata looked beautiful – the verdant landscape dotted by buildings old and new receding into the sunlit horizon – from the high perched Glenburn Penthouse.

A perfect setting for the launch of a book where the stories push at the boundaries of  accepted norms, opening new horizons for the protagonists.

The fourth book by author Nita Bajoria, a set of two novellas, ‘The Casket’ and 'Besky', was recently launched along with an interesting panel discussion where the panelists themselves – public relations expert Rita Bhimani, educator and Principal of Loreto College, Dr. Sister Christine Coutinho, and the author – were known for pushing the envelope as achievers and change-makers.

Bajoria said, “My fourth book 'Casket and Besky' is a duo novella. Both the stories in it are close to my heart as they speak of women empowerment and true love. The Casket is about a women archer and a budding author who come together to help each other find their identities. Besky, set in Darjeeling is about a tea plucker’s struggle to a decent life and her choices. Hope my readers would be able to relate and enjoy both the stories.”

Moderated by Oindrilla Dutt, arts and events curator, the panel discussion focused on the women protagonists of the book, their struggles and their achievements, and particularly on life, love, relationships, male perceptions and more.

Questions from the floor ranged from how important it is for mothers to sensitize their sons on issues of gender equality, being supportive partners and encouraging the women in the family to pursue their dreams, of partners suppressing their egos and adjusting in life, etc.

Apart from Consul General Zhao Liu of Chinese Consulate, Consul General Manfred Auster of German Consulate General, Consulate General of Turkey Nilufer Bose Archment, the event was also attended by Anjum Katyal (co-director Apeejay Kolkata Literary Fest), Jael Silliman (author), Ramanjit Kaur (theatre personality), GM Kapur (Head, INTACH Kolkata), Ushoshi Sengupta (Miss Universe India), Esha Dutta (Proprietor, Priya Cinema) and others.

The event concluded with book signings by Nita Bajoria.

The book is published by Leadstart.
