17 killed in Tamil Nadu road mishap

Chennai, June 3 (IBNS): At least 17 people were killed as a bus, a lorry and a car collided in Melumalai in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district on Friday, reports said.

"A Krishnagiri-bound private bus carrying 33 passengers from Berigai was rammed by a groundnut-laden lorry from Karnataka," The Hindu reported.

The mishap has left at least 30 people injured.

The AIADMK said chief minister J Jayalalithaa has mourned the loss of lives in the accident.

The AIADMK tweeted: "Puratchi Thalaivi Amma expresses deep grief over death of 17 persons in road mishap at Melumalai in Krishnagiri dt, grants Rs.1L aid."
