AAP leader Meera Sanyal dies, Arvind Kejriwal mourns

New Delhi, Jan 12 (IBNS): Banker -turned-politician Meera Sanyal, who had joined Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party, passed away on Friday.

She was 57.

According to reports, she was battling cancer.

Daughter of a respected naval officer, she was a CEO and chairperson of the Royal Bank of Scotland in India before joining the AAP.

She fought election as the Aam Aadmi Party candidate in South Mumbai in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections but lost. She had earlier contested as an independent candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Mumbai South constituency.

Aam Aadmi Party mourns:

The Aam Aadmi Party mourned the death of their party member and tweeted: "We are deeply saddened by this loss, @meerasanyal a good heart has stopped beating, a good soul ascended to heaven. Her memories will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in peace! #RIP."

AAP leaders express sadness:

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said: "Extremely sad to hear this. No words to express."

AAP leader Manish Sisodia said she will always remain in the heart of party leaders.

"I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Meera Sanyal.The country has lost a sharp economic brain and a gentle soul. May she rest in peace! You will forever remain in our hearts," Sisodia tweeted.

AAP leader Raghav Chadha posted: "The loss of a dear one is never easy, but @meerasanyal's sudden departure left no time for goodbyes. Your loss is irreparable, many conversations left unfinished but you will always remain in my memories as full of life, as you always were. RIP."
