Assam Governor unfurls national flag in Guwahati

Guwahati: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi unfurled the national flag at Veterinary College Field, Khanapara in Guwahati on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day celebration on Tuesday in presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In his speech the Assam governor said the year passed by was very challenging for us.

“Coronavirus pandemic tested our patience and resilience. Many of our near and dear ones lost their lives in the pandemic. While the world was grappling with this pandemic, our country was fortunate to have a leader like Prime Minister Narendra Modi who led this war against the invisible enemy from the front,” Prof Jagdish Mukhi said.

He further said the Assam government is focused on zero tolerance against any kind of crimes-be it drug smuggling, crime against women and children, human trafficking, cattle smuggling, cyber crime etc.

“In 2021, 2152 cases under NDPS Act have been registered in the state and a total number of 3643 persons arrested alongside recovery of 4.15 kg of heroin, 18590.73 kg of ganja, 69.32 kg of opium, 31.64 lakh numbers of tablet, 1.55 lakh bottles of cough syrup and cash amounting to Rs 2.35 crore. Further a mobile app ‘Drugs Free Assam’ has been developed. In the action against illegal transportation cattle, a total of 685 cases have registered from January 1, 2021 to October 31 last year and 520 persons have been arrested alongside seizing of 180 numbers of vehicles and 7109 numbers of cattles,” Prof. Mukhi said.
