Big twist in TN polls: Actor Vijay’s TVK takes surprise lead

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor Vijay, is making a strong impact in Tamil Nadu, emerging as a significant contender as counting of votes for the Assembly elections continues on Monday.

According to early trends at 9:34 am, TVK is leading in 68 seats, putting it marginally ahead in the race. The ruling DMK, led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, is currently ahead in 59 constituencies, while the AIADMK, the party’s principal rival in the state, is leading in 51 seats.

Tamil Nadu, long regarded as a stronghold of Dravidian politics, has traditionally witnessed a closely contested battle between the DMK and AIADMK.

However, the emergence of TVK has added a new dimension to the political landscape this election cycle.

The state went to the polls on April 23.

Vijay’s strong showing reflects a broader trend in Tamil Nadu politics, where film personalities have historically transitioned into influential political leaders and, in some cases, gone on to govern the state.
