Bihar Assembly Speaker from BJP quits ahead of Nitish Kumar's floor test

| @indiablooms | Aug 24, 2022, at 06:23 pm

Patna/IBNS: Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha, an MLA from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Wednesday stepped down from the post ahead of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's floor test, media reports said.

Earlier a no confidence motion was moved against Sinha after Nitish dumped the BJP to form a government with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress.

Sinha had earlier refused to resign citing unfounded claims, NDTV reported.

The new alliance government, dubbed as Mahaghathbandhan government, is likely to nominate RJD leader Awadh Bihari Chaudhary as the new Assembly Speaker.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Wednesday conducted raids in four locations linked to three RJD leaders, MLC Sunil Singh, Rajyasabha MP Ashfaq Karim and Fayaz Ahmed.

The raids are being conducted in the matter probably related to the land scam in lieu of providing a job, UNI reported.
