Birbhum CJM assaulted by extortionists: More 4 arrested

Kolkata/Birbhum, Nov 11 (IBNS): Birbhum district police on Tuesday night arrested four more accused in connection with the assaulting of Birbhum's Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), reports said.

The CJM of West Bengal's Birbhum district, Indranil Chatterjee was manhandled by few extortionists on Saturday night, for not paying them Kali Puja subscription. When his security guard tried to save Indranil Chatterjee, he was also attacked.

After starting investigation into the matter, police arrest four suspects- Dibyendu Sarkar, Mir Suman, Mir Miman and Md. Asif- earlier on Monday. They were produced in court on Tuesday and the judge sent Dibyendu and Mir Miman to police custody for 3 days and rest two arrested to jail custody till Nov 24.

The judge also directed the police to submit case diary before the court by Friday.

However, the family members of the arrested claimed that they were not the members of the accused club and they were responsible for making pandal there.

Meanwhile, police arrested more four persons on Tuesday night for their alleged involvement in the case.

One senior police official of Birbhum district police told IBNS: "We have arrested these four, who are members of the accused club, for their direct involvement in the matter."

However, they were produced in the court on Wednesday and sent to police custody for five days.
