CISF jawan opens fire at J&K camp, kills 4 colleagues after argument
A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel allegedly opened fire at his colleagues following an argument at a security unit in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Tuesday, killing four personnel, including an officer, officials said.
The incident took place around 6.40 pm at the CISF unit deployed at the Sewa Power Project in Mashka village in Basohli.
The victims were identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, Constable Rafiq Ahmed and Constable Sandeep Kumar.
Four CISF personnel killed
According to sources, cited by NDTV, the four personnel were initially injured in the firing and were taken to an NHPC hospital in Himachal Pradesh for treatment. They later succumbed to their injuries.
The suspected shooter has been identified as Head Constable Avdesh Kumar Singh.
According to the CISF, he allegedly entered the office premises and opened indiscriminate fire using his issued AK-47 rifle.
He was reportedly carrying 150 rounds of ammunition at the time of the incident.
Argument preceded shooting
Sources said the firing followed an argument among the personnel, although the exact circumstances and trigger for the dispute remain under investigation.
Police teams reached the site soon after the incident and secured the area. Avdesh Kumar Singh was arrested and subsequently handed over to the police.
Investigation underway
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what led to the argument and the sequence of events inside the CISF premises.
The Sewa Power Project is a hydroelectric power station located in Mashka village on the Sewa River, a tributary of the Ravi.
The incident has raised questions over the circumstances that preceded the firing and how the situation escalated inside the security unit.
