Burari deaths: Woman occultist Geeta Maa questioned

New Delhi, July 6 (IBNS): The Delhi Police on Friday questioned a woman tantrik (occultist) in connection with the deaths of 11 members of a family in Delhi's Burari area.

According to reports, the occultist, known as Geeta Maa, is the daughter of the contractor who had built the home of Lalit Chundawat, the younger son of Naryani Devi, who is the head of the family.

As per latest reports, it was Lalit who convinced the family into committing the mass suicide.

NDTV reports quoting sources said the police did not get any links so far between Geeta Maa and the suicide plan.

However, they are probing different facets to see if the family was influenced by some external force into taking their lives.

Earlier, the post-mortem report of all eleven members of the family, who were found hanging at their Burari residence on Sunday, revealed suicide as the cause of their deaths.

Police suspect that the family committed suicide in accordance with a religious practice to attain mass salvation.

Ten of the deceased were found hanging from the ceiling of the residence.

They were even found blindfolded, gagged and hands tied behind the back.

The deceased included seven women, two men and two boys aged 15.

The head of the family, Narayani devi, 75, was found lying in another room of the house.

Her daughter Pratibha, 57, sons- Bhavnesh, 50, and Lalit, 45,  along with their wives Savita, 48, and Tina, 42, were among the dead.

The deceased also included Bhavnesh's three children - Maneka, 23, Neetu, 25, and Dhirendra, 15, and Lalit's son Dushyant, 15, as well as Pratibha's daughter Priyanka, who was engaged last month.

Priyanka was scheduled to get married by the end of the year.
