Satya Niketan building collapse: Owner, wife sent to 14-day judicial custody; son gets 2 days' police custody
The owners of the five-storey PG accommodation in Delhi's Satya Niketan, whose collapse killed seven people, were on Monday sent to custody as the probe into the tragedy widened.
Hariram Gupta and his wife Urmila Gupta were remanded to 14 days in judicial custody, while their son Mahesh Gupta was sent to two days of police custody.
The building, located near Delhi University's South Campus, collapsed at around 1.30 pm on Sunday while repair work was underway, trapping students and workers beneath the rubble.
Five MCD officials suspended
The fallout has also reached the civic administration. Five officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been suspended following the collapse.

The Delhi High Court has separately ordered a high-level inquiry into the role of civic authorities and their alleged lapses in connection with the building.
Crackdown on unauthorised floors
The Delhi government has ordered action against unauthorised fifth floors, while the Lieutenant
The Governor has directed structural audits and inspection drives in areas with a high concentration of paying guest accommodations.
The measures have brought the safety of buildings housing large numbers of students into focus, with student groups also demanding safer and more affordable accommodation.
Political blame game erupts
The tragedy has triggered a political confrontation among the BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, with the parties trading allegations over responsibility for the collapse and the alleged failure of civic authorities to prevent it.
As the political blame game intensifies, the Satya Niketan tragedy has evolved into a broader debate over building regulations, enforcement and the safety of thousands of students living in Delhi's PG accommodations.
