Burdwan district to be bifurcated next year: Mamata Banerjee

Burdwan, Dec 1 (IBNS): West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced the bifurcation of Burdwan district will be held before the Durga Puja next year.

She made the announcement while addressing a public meeting at Mongalkote area,

The rural and industrial parts of Burdwan district will be split to create two separate districts.

"We will bifurcate the district. The procedure will be complete by Durga Puja next year," Mamata Banerjee said.

Besides the announcement, CM Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday flagged off the Sabuj Sathi scheme for Burdwan district.

"We are launching the ‘Sabuj Sathi’ scheme in the district today. 'Sabuj' signifies the youth," she said.

Banerjee also inaugurated few projects here, including road projects, water supply projects, several health care projects, new buses for the districts, Pather Sathi motels, bridges, hostels for boys and girls.

She laid the foundation stones for several projects including road and irrigation projects, renovation of administrative buildings, minority hostels and power sub-stations.
 
Mamata Banerjee also distributed several services including Kanyashree, Yuvashree, Sikshashree, equipment to fishermen, Kisan and artisan credit cards, different agricultural machineries and equipment, pattas and financial assistance for natural disasters.   

Attacking the Centre and main opposition CPI-M, she said, "CPI-M incurred huge debt. The Centre is taking away a large share of our revenue to pay for the installments. Centre has not given a penny worth relief for those affected in floods. Centre has also stopped the funding for ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services). But, we will not let the scheme stop. We will provide funds for it."

Banerjee also announced that flight service between Delhi and Burdwan district (Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport at Andal) will  commence soon.
