Centre targets to generate 1 lakh MW of solar power by 2022 : Piyus Goyal

Guwahati, Apr 10 (IBNS) : The Centre has set an ambitious target of generating 1 lakh mega watt of solar power by 2022, Union Power, Coal, NRF minister Piyus Goyal said in Guwahati on Friday.

Addressing a press conference held in the capital city of Assam, the union minister said, "Our mission to provide power in 24 hours to every household."

"We looks into more generation of renewable energy, " Goyal said.

He further said that, the union government will install 40 MW solar power plant in Assam and the state government has agreed to allocate 400 bighas land for the plant.

On other hand, the union minister said that, the government will restart the construction work of 2000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric project after come out the final report of expert committee.

"Centre will work with the government and the people, organizations of Assam to resolve all issues related to Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project in the best interest of all concerned," Piyus Goyal said.

On Thursday, the union minister said in the inaugural session of the Conference of Power, Renewable Energy and Mines held in Guwahati that, the Centre had decided allocation of Rs 10,000 cr in the power sector of the eight North East States including Sikkim.

"The Union Government has undertaken initiatives in the NE region for speedy implementation of power projects and urging to the state governments to give their extend support for generating more power, " Goyal said.
