Delhi air quality remains in very poor category

New Delhi/UNI: The air quality in the national capital continues to remain in the “very poor ” category on Wednesday morning, as the air quality index recorded 349 according to India Meteorological department (IMD).

In its morning bulletin, IMD said, “The air quality over Delhi-NCT is likely to improve marginally but remain in the 'very poor' category on December 1 to December 3. PM2.5 to be the predominant pollutant.”

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) bulletin, the concentrations of PM 2.5 and PM 10 stood at 168 in the 'very poor' and 301 in the 'poor' category respectively around 10 am, as per the agency.

Several areas in the national capital including ITO, Lodhi Road, and Mandir Marg recorded air quality in the "very poor” category with an AQI of 352, 317, and 337 while the AQI at Anand Vihar and Jahangirpuri were in the "severe" category with an AQI 435 and 408 respectively.

According to data of Central Pollution Control Board the Air Quality Index in the neighbouring parts of Delhi, also recorded their air quality in the 'very poor to severe' category, Faridabad ( at 410 ), Ghaziabad (305 ), Gurugram (396) and Noida sec 62 (396 ).

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government issued an official order extending the ban on the entry of trucks, barring those engaged in essential services, till December 7. CNG and electric trucks will be allowed to enter Delhi.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) the sky will remain partly cloudy with possibility of development of thunder lightning.

“The minimum and maximum temperature likely to hover around 11 and 25 degree Celsius respectively

“The relative humidity at 0830hrs in the morning stood at 93 percent,” IMD said.
