Delhi records season’s lowest temperature at 3.2 degrees; IMD issues yellow alert

New Delhi/UNI: Cold wave conditions continue to sweep Delhi, as the minimum temperature plunged to the season’s lowest, registering 3.2 degrees Celsius, five notches below the normal on Monday morning, said the India Meteorological Department(IMD).

The weather agency also issued a yellow alert (severely bad weather) for Delhi for Monday and there is also a possibility of drizzling on December 24 or 25, cautioned the department.

The IMD had predicted severe cold wave conditions in parts of northwest India till December 21.

“The minimum temperature on Monday is likely to settle at around 3 degree Celsius and the maximum could be 19 degree Celsius,” it said.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality slipped to the 'very poor' quality on Monday morning with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) clocking 327.

The air quality was in the ‘poor’ category on Sunday, with an AQI of 290.

The concentrations of PM 2.5 and PM 10 stood at 133 in the 'poor' and 222 in the 'moderate' category respectively, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

According to the data by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the neighbouring parts of Delhi, also recorded air quality in the 'poor to very poor' category, Faridabad was at 299, Ghaziabad at 231, Gurugram (288) and Noida sector 62, (298).

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
