Election Commission announces poll dates in five states
New Delhi, Mar 4 (IBNS) The Election Commission announced dates for assembly polls in five Indian states scheduled over April and May 2016 with West Bengal going to staggered polls in six phases.
The five states going to polls are Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala, beginning April 4, 2016 and ending on May 16, 2016.

Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said about 17 crore voters will take part in this election.

Assam: Two phases. First phase: 65 constituencies. April 4, 2016 / Second Phase: 61 constituencies: April 11, 2016
West Bengal: Six phases: First phase: 18 constituencies and 31 constituencies over two days, April 4, 2016 / Second Phase: 56 constituencies: April 17, 2016 / Third Phase 63 constituencies: April 21, 2016 / Fourth phase 49 constituencies April 25, 2016 / Fifth Phase: 53 constituencies, April 30, 2016 / Sixth Phase: 25 constituencies , May 5, 2016
Kerala: Single Phase: 140 constituencies, May 16, 2016
Tamil Nadu: Single Phase, 234 constituencies, May 16, 2016
Puducherry: Single Phase, 30 constituencies, May 16, 2016
Counting of votes for states is on May 19 2016, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said.
