FIR against Ajmer university VC, 6 others over expulsion of Dalit student

| | Jan 22, 2016, at 05:38 pm
Ajmer, Jan 22 (IBNS) An FIR has been registered against seven persons, including the vice chancellor of Ajmer university for alleged discrimination against a Dalit student, reports said.

Earlier, a trial court ordered  the police to register a case against them for allegedly harassing a Dalit research scholar and allegedly going beyond the rules to expel him.

The expelled Dalit scholar, Umesh Jonwal, has alleged that he was asked for money by his counsellor. After he refused to pay any money, he was expelled on the grounds of staying absent for 15 days despite the fact that the rule does not apply to research scholars.

The development comes amid the nationwide uproar over the suicide of Rohith Vemula, a Dalit student who was subjected to alleged discrimination by Hyderabad Central University administration and committed suicide.
