Gogoi asks Modi govt to take steps to stop illegal influx

Guwahati, Aug 15 (IBNS) : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday asked to the Union government to take necessary steps to stop illegal influx into the state.

During his Independence Day speech in the government function held at the Veterinary college playground in Khanapara Guwahati, the Assam CM said that the Union government must take steps to stop illegal influx.

"I appeal to the Union government to complete the border fencing works expeditiously and guard the International border more effectively in the border to stop illegal influx, " Gogoi said.

"It is also one of the sincere responsibilities of the Assam government to maintain peace and cooperation with the neighboring states and ensuring the safety and security of the people living along the state border," the Assam CM said.

Remarking on the recently signed Naga Peace Accord, Gogoi said that, Assam government would not allow any infringement of the constitutional boundary of the state under circumstances.

"We welcomed the peace initiatives in the Nagaland and the recent developments regarding the Naga peace accord. It would have been helpful if details of the recently announced peace accord are published. Not making the details have so led to multiple apprehensions, " Gogoi said.

Promoting Make in Assam, Gogoi said that, for Make in India to be successful and meaningful, we must ensure Make in Assam as well as, which can be resumption of North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP) and other enabling policies of the centre.

"India lives in its villages. We feels that Smart city can develop only if we have Smart villages which alone can help us maintain a healthy growth pattern. Assam government wants to make all villages smart villages, " Gogoi said.

He further said that, Assam government has planned to set up a Rural Planning and Development Authority.
