Good at conducting elections: Shashi Tharoor praises Modi, Shah over Bengal- Assam victories

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their party’s strong performance in the West Bengal and Assam Assembly elections, saying they are “very good at conducting elections.”

Speaking to ANI, Tharoor acknowledged the organisational strength of the Bharatiya Janata Party. “They have done a good job in Bengal and Assam, partly because they are very effective at conducting elections,” he said.

He further highlighted the party’s structured approach. “They are professionally organised and have strong organisational strength. They invest significant resources, including financial resources, into their campaigns,” Tharoor added.

“There are things that all of us can learn from that,” he noted.

BJP’s Historic Win in West Bengal

In West Bengal, the BJP delivered a historic performance, winning 207 seats—its highest-ever tally in the state, which had remained a stronghold of All India Trinamool Congress for 15 years.

The Trinamool Congress secured 80 seats, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee losing from Bhabanipur to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.

The election was also the first in the state following the deletion of around 90 lakh voters under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

BJP Secures Third Term in Assam

In Assam, the BJP-led NDA stormed back to power for a historic third consecutive term, comfortably crossing the majority mark in the 126-member Assembly.

Led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP won 82 seats. Its allies—the Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front—secured nine and 10 seats respectively, further strengthening the alliance’s position in the state.
