Have agreed to let Land Bill lapse tomorrow: PM Modi on Mann Ki Baat
New Delhi, Aug 30 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday through his monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat' said his government will allow the controversial land bill to lapse on Monday due to the immense opposition it faced.
"Tomorrow the land bill will lapse and I have agreed to it," the Prime Minister said.
"Due to the problems the ordinance also has been affected. The government will not promulgate land ordinance, but will include 13 points to reform the land acquisition law to benefit farmers," Modi said.
He also defended the Land Acquisition Bill and said it was being implemented for the benefit of the farmers.
"The 13 points were meant to provide direct financial benefit to the farmers, are being brought under the rules effective from today so that the farmers do not face financial losses," PM Modi said.
Taking a dig at the Congress party, he said the Centre will not allow the farmers to be misled.
"The government is open to any suggestion in the interest of farmers. Ready to amend land acquisition act to benefit farmers, who were subjected to misinformation leading to a lot of apprehension in their minds," said he.
He also expressed his anguish over the recent Gujarat violence.
"The events of Gujarat have anguished the nation. People will feel shocked if this happens in land of Gandhi and Sardar Patel," said Modi.
