I was ousted from Nalanda: Amartya Sen

| | Jul 07, 2015, at 10:04 pm
New Delhi, July 7 (IBNS): Noble laureate Amartya Sen has attacked the Centre and said he was ousted from the Nalanda University.

"I was certainly ousted from Nalanda," Sen told The Times of India.

"Some members of the Board, especially the foreign members were keen on carrying on the battle for me but I stepped aside as I did not want to be an ineffective leader. The government may have held up finances or statues had I continued," he told the newspaper.

Sen earlier served as the Chancellor of the university.

He said: "Nalanda not a one off incident. Nothing in this scale of interference has happened before. Every institution where the government has a formal role is being converted into where the government has a substantive role."
