India to set up satellite tracking and imaging centre in Vietnam

| | Jan 25, 2016, at 11:04 pm
New Delhi, Jan 25 (IBNS): India will be setting up a satellite tracking and imaging centre in Vietnam that will help both countries share pictures taken by Indian satellites positioned in the region.

The high-tech satellite tracking and imaging centre, to be built by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), will be located in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City.

ISRO will be able to monitor its satellite launches from this new centre.

Apart from a ground station in the Andaman & Nicobar islands, India also has stations in Brunei, Indonesia and Mauritius to track satellites launched.

The images from the Indian earth observation satellites positioned over the area will be used for agricultural, scientific and environmental applications. But the imaging technology could also be used for military purposes, according to media reports.

Vietnam will have access to pictures taken by the Indian earth observation satellites that cover the region, including China and South China Sea.
