Indian Army rescues foreign, Indian tourists

New Delhi, Aug 27 (IBNS): The Indian Army on Thursday said 14 tourists, including foreigners and Indians , were rescued after they met with an accident at the NH 1A near in jammu and Kahshmir's Leh district.

"Today at 1100AM a severe mishap occurred at the NH 1A near Sangam, Nimu. A civilian Traveller Minibus Maxi Cab travelling from Sangam to Chilling carrying 14 tourists toppled on the roadside due to the bursting of the right rear tyre and passengers were injured and trapped inside the vehicle," read a government statement.

"The Army troops from 14 Corps returning after rafting saw the toppled vehicle and immediately came to the rescue. They saved the trapped passengers and without any delay evacuated them to Military Hospital at Nimu," it said.

Out of the 14 travelers, 8 were foreigners that included  4 males and 4 females, from New York, Israel and Nepal.

"Along with them 6 Indian tourists were also there including 4 Males and 2 Females from Mumbai. 8 were severely injured and 6 had sustained minor injuries with abrasion / laceration, sprain and strains," read the statement.
