Investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala passes away at 62

Mumbai/IBNS: Indian business magnet Rakesh Jhunjhunwala died at a Mumbai hospital on Sunday morning. He was 62.

Jhunjhunwala was rushed to the Breach Candy Hospital at around 6.45 am where he was declared dead on arrival, media reports said.

The veteran trader-cum-investor, also known as the Big Bull of Dalal Street, was reported to have a net worth of around $5.5 billion, according to Forbes.

He was a promoter of India's newest airline Akasa Air which started operations last week.

Condoling his death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "Rakesh Jhunjhunwala was indomitable. Full of life, witty and insightful, he leaves behind an indelible contribution to the financial world. He was also very passionate about India’s progress. His passing away is saddening. My condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said Jhunjhunwala was "an inspiration for wealth creation for crores."

"Deeply anguished at the demise of veteran investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. He was an inspiration for wealth creation for crores. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers. Om Shanti," he said in a tweet.

Jhunjhunwala is survived by his wife and three children.
