Javed Akhtar seeks non-bailable arrest warrant against Kangana Ranaut in defamation case

Mumbai/IBNS: Veteran script writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar on Monday moved a plea before the Metropolitan Magistrate court seeking the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut in connection with a defamation case filed against her.

Akhtar had filed the defamation case against Ranaut in November 2020, alleging that she made defamatory and baseless comments about him during a television interview.

In his fresh petition, he mentioned that Ranaut was making "false and incorrect statements" before the court.

Earlier, the Andheri metropolitan magistrate’s court rejected an application filed by Akhtar seeking a non-bailable warrant against Ranaut for not appearing before the court.

The court had then observed that Akhtar's lawyer may file a fresh application for an arrest warrant against the actor in case she fails to appear before it in the next hearing.

Earlier in that hearing, Ranaut's lawyer had informed the court that she could not appear before it as she was out of the city.
