J&K government formation: Mehbooba Mufti meets Governor

Srinagar, Feb 2 (IBNS) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday met Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra over the issue of governor formation in the state.

After the meeting, Mufti said she wants to see the Centre to take some confidence building measures for the region before the formation of the new government.

"There needs to be an environment to create a government here in Jammu and Kashmir," Mufti told reporters.

"Before formation of new J&K government, I want central Govt to take some confidence building measures for the region," she said.

She said her party had earlier formed an alliance with the BJP in the larger interest of the people.

Speaking on her father and former J&K CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, she said: "
I believe in my father's commitment and conviction."

Jammu and Kashmir was placed under the Governor's rule on Jan 8 after Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away on Jan 7 in New Delhi, and Mehbooba Mufti did not step forward to stake claim to form the government owing to differences with the BJP, the alliance partner in the previous government.

On Monday, the governor asked PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and the BJP to clarify their position after holding talks on Tuesday.

On Sunday, PDP said it will take a call on government formation in Jammu and Kashmir as and when it is confident that the vision and mission of late chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed- whose death led to the crisis- will be carried forward and implemented in letter and spirit.
