Jwala Gutta hits out at Anupam Kher over The Accident Prime Minister row

Mumbai, Dec 31 (IBNS): Not just from the Congress, veteran actor Anupam Kher has also received criticism from badminton player Jwala Gutta over the snowballing controversy of The Accidental Prime Minister, a biopic on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

In a couple of tweets, Gutta said: "Ok...so when #DeepikaPadukone was being threatened by then ministers for her role in PADMAVATI...I just want to know if #Anupamkher condemned it!! I tried looking for it..couldn’t find anything...pls help me know this fact!!"

"Why give an interview saying”I am not in politics I am just an actor doing my job”yet he didn’t condemned the open death threats by ministers of our country to #DeepikaPadukone a fellow actor a colleague a lady.WHY?? Rather it should have angered a senior artist like #AnupamKher"

Kher essayed the role of Singh in the film.

From nuclear deal to scams which had unnerved the Congress government, The Accidental Prime Minister touched all of them.

The trailer of the film has evoked anger from the Congress which had alleged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to which Kher is known to be close, is trying to malign the party ahead of the 2019 General Elections.

However, Kher said he won't back off as this film gave him his career-best performance.

Deepika, who portrayed the character of Rani Padmini in Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial film Padmaavat, had received threats of getting her nose chopped from fringe groups.

The release date of the film, which was earlier titled as Padmavati, was also rescheduled following the protests.
