Kalikho Pul sworn in as ninth chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar, Feb 20 (IBNS) Kalikho Pul, 46, a dissident Congress leader, was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday with the support of 18 rebel Congress MLAs, two Independents and 11 BJP MLAs who gave outside support, according to media reports.
Tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi "My best wishes to the new Government of Arunachal Pradesh in fulfilling the expectations & aspirations of the people."
Earlier, the Supreme Court had vacated its interim order to maintain status quo in the Arunachal Pradesh assembly and the Centre too had revoked the President's Rule that was imposed on Jan 25 in the state, paving the way for the formation of the government.
On Wednesday, Pul, a five-time MLA and former finance minister, had led a delegation of 31 MLAs and met Governor J P Rajkhowa in Itanagar to stake claim to form the government.
The governor administered the oath of office to Pul at 9.30 pm on Friday.
CM Pul will induct his ministers at a later date.
According to local media reports, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee has claimed that Pul and 18 other dissidents were no longer its members.
