Karnataka: 100 BJP MLAs flew to Delhi, 5 of Congress 'missing'
Bengaluru, Jan 14 (IBNS): In a new political twist, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has flew its 100-odd lawmakers to the Delhi and then parked them at a resort in Gurgaon alleging that Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy was trying to influence them.
"The Janata Dal Secular (JDS) wants to break BJP lawmakers. We are united. We will stay in Delhi for one or two days," NDTV quoted BJP leader and former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa as saying.
"We are not trying to form an alternative government," he added.
The Congress has also alleged that missing lawmakers provide a hint that the BJP has launched "Operation Lotus".
The term had its inception during 2008 when the BJP was accused of inciting several opposition legislators.
The move was undertaken to ensure the stability of the BJP government headed by Yeddyurappa.
Meanwhile, five Congress MLAs are missing as well.
However, the chief minister has said that they went to Mumbai on various purposes and are in regular touch with him.
"All of them (Congress MLAs) are continuously in contact with me. They went to Mumbai after informing me. My government isn't under any threat," Kumaraswamy told media.
Kumaraswamy, who took oath as chief minister in May following an alliance between the Janata Dal Secular and the Congress, said: "I know who all the BJP is trying to contact and what they're offering. I can handle it."
The missing MLAs include Ramesh Jarakiholi, Anand Singh, B Nagendra, Umesh Jadhav and BC Patil.
