Karnataka CM BS Bommai seeks Punjab govt's dismissal over PM Modi's security breach

Mandya,Karnataka/UNI: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday sought dismissal of the Punjab government which could not provide security to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He was speaking to media persons after participating in a programme at Adichunchanagiri Mutt in Mandya district.

He said Congress' Charanjeet Singh Channi government has failed to provide security for the Prime Minister and the guilty should be punished.

"Failure to make arrangements for smooth movement of the Prime Minister has drawn wide condemnation across the country. It is a highly condemnable incident.

"It is the duty of every government to respect the Prime Minister of the country. I strongly condemn the lapse. Those responsible for the lapses should be punished stringently," he said.

Modi's cavalcade was stuck on a flyover for nearly 20 minutes due to farmers blocking the flyover.

Private cars were also seen approaching the cavalcade, which was a major security lapse.

Modi was scheduled to address a rally in Ferozepur but the event had to be cancelled.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a detailed report on PM Modi's security breach.

"Such dereliction of security procedure in the Prime Minister’s visit is totally unacceptable and accountability will be fixed," Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh called the security breach a "complete failure of law and order in the state".

Smriti Irani, the Minister of Women and Child Development, flayed the Punjab government for the major lapse in Modi's security breach.

"We know Congress hates Modi, today they tried to harm the PM of India, " she said.
