Kolkata: Clash between two TMC groups injures cops, 9 arrested
Kolkata, Aug 19 (IBNS): Three policemen were injured on Tuesday during a clash between two groups of Trinamool Congress (TMC) at Baishali More area under Tangra Police Station in Kolkata.
On Tuesday at 11:50 am., two local groups of ruling party TMC engaged in clash and had started throwing bricks and stones aiming each other.
When police force from nearby Tangra Police Station rushed to the spot and intervened in the matter, they were allegedly attacked by the mob.
According to police reports, aiming the police, at least 8 to 10 bombs were thrown and 3-4 rounds of bullets were fired. Bricks and stones were also thrown.
Three policemen including one sub-inspector of Tangra Police Station were injured during the clash and taken to NRS hospital.
Then huge police force and rapid action force (RAF) were deployed to the spot and the situation was brought under control.
Police also seized two live bombs and one bullet-head from the area.
Police had lodged an FIR against 11 accused persons under IPC sections 147, 148, 149, 332, 326, 307 and 427; under Arms Act 25 and 27 and
under 3 and 5 ES Act on Suo Motto basis.
Police have arrested 9 accused- Bablu Sarkar, Tapas Sarkar, Md. Selim, Pankaj Pandey alias Pankaj Prasad, Jiten Prasad, Shibu Das, Rakesh Hazra, Rajesh Mullick and Dipak Prasad so far in connection with this case.
They were produced in the court on Wednesday and sent to police custody till Aug 29.
However, local TMC leaders denied their involvement in the incident.
