‘Larger conspiracy ahead of PM Modi’s visit’: BJP on killing of Suvendu Adhikari’s aide

| @indiablooms | May 07, 2026, at 01:41 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged a larger conspiracy behind the killing of Suvendu Adhikari’s aide Chandranath Rath, claiming the murder may have been aimed at disturbing the law-and-order situation ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to West Bengal for the swearing-in ceremony.

“The weapon used in the crime suggests there may be a larger conspiracy behind the murder. This could be an attack on the very soul of the BJP or an attempt to disturb the law-and-order situation ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state for the swearing-in ceremony,” a BJP leader said.

“What is evident, however, is that there is complete anarchy in the state and the Constitution appears to have ceased functioning in spirit.”
The leader also appealed for calm among party workers.

“I appeal to all BJP workers to maintain peace and restraint because the people have voted for us with the hope of ending this cycle of violence and restoring normalcy,” the statement added.

Rath Shot Dead in Madhyamgram

Rath was shot dead in Madhyamgram on Wednesday night, triggering fresh political tremors in the state.

Reports said the victim was attacked at point-blank range after allegedly being followed for some time.

According to local television reports, the driver of Rath’s car also sustained injuries in the attack.

Rath reportedly suffered three bullet wounds — two in the chest and one in the stomach — and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Assailants Flee, Police Launch Probe

The bike-borne assailants fled the spot immediately after the shooting, and their identities are yet to be established.

Police said the number plate used on the attackers’ vehicle was “fake”.

Authorities have launched a search operation and are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify and nab the miscreants.

The killing comes amid heightened political tension in West Bengal following the Assembly election results, in which the BJP secured a landmark victory.
The incident is expected to further intensify the already charged political atmosphere in the state, with security concerns likely to dominate political discourse in the coming days.
